Andy Richmond

Managing Director

Andy is a founder director of the Company, established in 1997.  He holds a BA degree in archaeology from the University of Wales and a Doctorate from Reading University. He has over 30 years’ experience as an Archaeologist and is a full Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (MCIfA).  In 2011 he was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.  Founded in 1707, its Fellows include archaeologists and art and architectural historians holding positions of responsibility across the cultural heritage sector.

Antony Mustchin

Post-Excavation Report Writer 

Antony is a Post-Excavation Report Writer with Phoenix Consulting Archaeology Ltd. He has experience in both the research and commercial archaeological sectors, gained since graduating in 2003. He has worked on a variety of research projects within the North Atlantic region, and also excavated in the Eastern Settlement of Greenland. He also spent three years working for the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims Remains. Commercially, Antony has worked for a number of organisations and has produced a corpus of publications through journals and monograph series including East Anglian Archaeology, Medieval Settlement Research and Anglo-Saxon Studies in Archaeology and History.

Greg Jones

Field Officer 

Greg is a Field Officer at Phoenix Consulting Archaeology Ltd. He has over twenty years’ experience as an archaeologist and has directed numerous large scale multi-period excavations across the country, having been a Senior Supervisor at the University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) and the Senior Project Officer at the Heritage Network. He holds a BA Degree in Archaeology from the University of Liverpool and a Master’s Degree from the University of Leicester and is also an Associate Member of the CIfA.

Gary Coates

Manager, Field Services 

Gary is Manager of Field Services at Phoenix Consulting Archaeology Limited and has been with the company for over 15 years.  He is highly experienced in the management and costing of archaeological projects, having been Senior Archaeologist (Operations) of the Archaeological Services Division at Northamptonshire County Council and Projects Manager at Birmingham University Field Archaeology Unit.  Gary has managed numerous large-scale archaeological projects and published on the same.  He also carries out consultancy duties within the company.

Penny Fenton

BA ACIfA

Consultant 

Penny is a Consultant with Phoenix Consulting Archaeology Ltd, and previously managed their Framework Agreement held with English Heritage. This involved assessing numerous categories of archaeological sites with regard to their national, regional and local importance. Penny holds a BA degree in Medieval Archaeology from University College London and is an Associate Member of the Institute for Archaeologists. She has worked as an archaeologist for many organisations, from the Orkneys to Southampton, and maintains an active interest in the legislative criteria afforded to archaeological sites.
